3200 soldiers: the French army secretly prepared to intervene in Ukraine?
Code name? “Perseus. Number of soldiers mobilized? 3200. According to the specialist website Intelligence Online, France has been secretly training its army for deployment in Ukraine.
A large-scale military exercise, dubbed “Persée”, was carried out in autumn 2024. The French army simulated the deployment of its special forces in Ukraine, with the aim of repelling a hypothetical Russian breakthrough from Belarus, reports Intelligence Online. According to the report, the operation lasted a week, in an area of French territory resembling the “elbow that makes” the Dniepr river, north of Kiev.
“Throughout the week, the training [the location of which has been kept secret, editor’s note] tested the actions and equipment of 3,200 soldiers”, Intelligence Online reports. The emphasis was “on the tactical use of drones, electronic warfare, radio reconnaissance and unit interoperability in high-intensity combat scenarios”.
The French army formally denies these assertions. Contacted by Franceinfo, the Ministry of the Armed Forces explained: “This is an annual exercise held under the responsibility of the Land Special Actions Command (Cast),” adding that “Persée” is the new name of the traditional exercise called “Gorgones”, which takes place every year “on national territory”.
