A new variant of Covid is spreading worldwide and is expected to become the most widespread.
A Greater Manchester GP has told the Manchester Evening News exactly what is happening in her practice. It includes major coronavirus symptoms that “really seem to wipe people out” and are different to the milder effects of previous variants.
According to Dr Helen Wall, a GP in Bolton, one of the main difficulties doctors are facing at the moment is that many symptoms are overlapping with a multitude of illnesses that often appear as the weather starts to cool down and children return to school.
The symptoms associated with the XEC variant remain similar to those already known: cough, sore throat, persistent headache, fever and, in some cases, loss of taste and smell. Although it is spreading rapidly, particularly in Europe, this variant is not expected to be more dangerous than its predecessors. The recommendations in the event of infection therefore remain the same: limit social contact and isolate yourself as soon as symptoms appear.
