Ab-Soul and JID have further proved that they are two of the best MCs in the game today as they go bar-for-bar on new song “Crazier.”
Continuing the rollout for his new album Soul Burger, the TDE veteran has given fans a taste of a little bit of everything, with his latest single offering nothing but straight bars.
Over a sparse Kal Banx beat, the two take turns to deliver their best with JID lining up first.
The Dreamville lyricist even uses his verse to compare himself to JAY-Z and Nas, spitting: “The nasally Nas, but I’m more JAY-Z-er.”
Soul also drops some wild lines in his verse, at one point rapping: “Extraordinary, the stupid genius, somebody call Keem / Phoenix out the ashes like they done cremated Joaquin.”
The West Coast rapper recently praised JID during a lengthy interview with DJ Hed, saying: “Shout out to JID, he one of the Jedis.”
Dropping on November 8, Soul Burger will serve as Ab-Soul’s sixth album and is a tribute to his late friend Armon “Doe Burger” Stringer, who died in 2021.
He also spoke to DJ Hed about how much Doe Burger meant to him and how his death inspired his forthcoming project.
“The idea came to fruition after [Doe Burger]’s transition and it’s just something that was very important for me to do ‘cause I don’t even know how I’m really still doing this without him,” Soul explained. “That’s how tight-knit we were.
“Just to make it clear that he wasn’t no hype man or hangaround, he was really my big homie. He was really the star of it. He put the glow on it. I just been tryna channel him. I got my hair braided — that was against my religion. I got jewelry on.”
He continued: “I just been trying to channel him and my best way of doing that is through the music. And hence the title, it’s the fusion of me and him. We was literally Huey and Riley from The Boondocks.
“To where this album is not me – it’s Soul Burger. That’s not me. It’s like a new artist. It’s not a Ab-Soul project, it’s a Soul Burger project, so I recommend everybody listen to it in terms of that.”
