The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Olufemi Oluyede, has vowed that the terror group Lukarawa will soon be crushed and eradicated.
He stated this to State House media following a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja.
He stated that he had visited the Aso Rock to assure the President that he would do his best in terms of security.
“I am here to reassure Mr. President that I will do my best to improve Nigeria’s security. “I intend to take a different approach to achieve significant results,” he stated.
“We’re hitting them hard in Nigeria, and when you hit them hard here, they go to Niger Republic. “With Niger Republic on board, Lukarawa will soon be a thing of the past,” he remarked.
“We need to collaborate with adjacent nations since these challenges also affect them. We can better address the threat if we work together,” he continued.
The Lukarawa group developed in Sokoto State in 2016 or 2017 as a self-defense militia founded by local leaders to combat banditry.
The gang, which is a hardline faction, enforces stringent religious restrictions and exercises control over local areas.
Oluyede, who toured the theatres of operations in the northwest and northeast, stated that he had encouraged troops to increase their efforts to reduce insecurity.
“I spoke with my commanders and men about the necessity to eliminate all types of insecurity in Nigeria. “I made it clear that I intend to do things differently and expect better results in the future,” he said.
Tensions have risen in areas of the country since the new terror group appeared, with bombs detonating in places such as Zamfara and blamed on the now-infamous gang.
