Actress Marcela Alcaráz has broken her silence following rumors circulating on social media and in the media about her alleged death in a ritual involving the substance known as Kambó.
Through a video posted on her social media, Alcaráz clarified that she is alive, in perfect health, and that she was not involved in any spiritual retreat.
“I want them to see me and know that I’m fine. I never went to Durango , I didn’t participate in any retreat or consume poison. Unfortunately, I understand that there is confusion because a woman named Marcela Alcazar did pass away, and I send my condolences to her family,” said the actress, visibly calm.
Confusion over names
The misunderstanding arose after authorities in Durango reported the death of a woman at a spiritual retreat. According to reports, the victim, named Marcela Alcazar, died after ingesting a toxic drink made from frog secretions, used in a ritual called Kambó.
What happened at the spiritual retreat?
The tragedy occurred on Sunday, December 1, when Marcela Alcazar attended a spiritual retreat organized in the Villa de Guadalupe neighborhood in Durango.
There, he consumed a drink containing toxic substances from the frog Phyllomedusa bicolor , used in traditional rituals, but which can cause severe adverse effects such as vomiting, diarrhea, and even death.
Hours after presenting severe symptoms, Alcazar was transferred to the Red Cross, where she unfortunately lost her life.
Authorities investigate the shaman responsible
The State Attorney General’s Office reported that the house where the retreat took place was searched, but the alleged organizer, identified as Jonathan “N”, fled before being arrested.
According to testimonies, this shaman offered his services as part of a “Diploma in the Training of Healers,” a course that promises to purify the soul, although it lacks scientific support.
Risks of Kambó
The Kambó drink used in these rituals contains dermorphine, an extremely potent natural opioid. Although it is promoted as a therapeutic practice in some Latin American countries , experts warn that it can cause serious health damage, such as toxic hepatitis, multi-organ failure and, in extreme cases, death.
Marcela concluded her statement by thanking her followers for their support and took the opportunity to send a message of reflection:
“It is important to inform ourselves before participating in these activities. I am glad that this confusion did not go any further with me, but we must not forget that a family is in mourning. My prayers are with them.”
The situation is still being investigated by the authorities, who are looking for the person responsible for this tragic event.
