Amir Boulahrouz, a bright 19-year-old undergraduate software engineering student, was found dead on Wednesday, August 7, after going missing for 72 hours. The University of Ottawa community is in deep sorrow over his passing.

Amir, known for his strong passion for coding and profound interest in technology, had a bright future ahead of him. He was last seen leaving the Civic Hospital in Ottawa, sparking widespread concern and a massive search effort led by friends, family, and the university community.
“Amir was an incredibly motivated and proactive learner,” said a university spokesperson. “He had a dedication to his studies and an enthusiasm for technology that were evident to everyone who knew him.”
The search for Amir began after he failed to return home, and his mother, Nadia, voiced her extreme worry for his well-being. Unfortunately, the search ended in tragedy when Amir’s body was discovered on August 7th.
Nadia shared a heartfelt message on social media, expressing her grief and gratitude for the community’s support: “The search is stopped because my lovely Amir has died. We are in mourning and grief. We belong to Allah and to Allah we return. I ask you to pray for him, Allah yerahmu. Thank you, everyone, for your support. I will take some time to answer all your messages when I get the chance.”
