Brad Pitt reacts to the case of a woman who was scammed out of $850,000 for believing they were in a relationship
Actor Brad Pitt has spoken out about the viral case of Anne, a French woman who was the victim of an impostor who pretended to be the actor.
Brad Pitt broke his silence after learning about the case of Anne , a 53-year-old French woman who was the victim of a scam by a criminal who made her believe, with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI), that she was having an affair with the acclaimed actor.
As a result, the criminal managed to steal 850 thousand dollars from him , more than 21 million lempiras at the current exchange rate.
In a statement released by his representative, Pitt described the incident as “terrible” and expressed regret that a scammer had taken advantage of his fan.
“It’s appalling that scammers would take advantage of the strong bond between fans and celebrities ,” Pitt’s spokesperson told HuffPost.
He added that “this is an important reminder not to respond to unsolicited online messages , especially from actors who are not present on social media.”
What was the alleged Brad Pitt scam like ?
According to the French press, the scammer asked Anne for $850,000 for a major operation to cure kidney cancer.
Similarly, the fake Brad Pitt assured him that he did not have access to his bank accounts because of his complicated divorce with Angelina Jolie.
The woman, who gave her public testimony on a TF1 programme, claimed that she had “fallen in love” with the person she was chatting with on the internet, who was pretending to be the actor Pitt.
At the time of the beginning of this long-distance relationship, the fifty-year-old was going through a difficult time emotionally with her husband, with whom she has a daughter.
“He would send me photos and when I searched online I couldn’t see them. So he would say to me: ‘these are photos he took for me’,” she told reporters on the programme ‘Sept à Huit’.
After a year and a half, Anne discovers the deception when the media reports that Pitt has begun a relationship with Inés de Ramón. After the scam, the woman suffers from severe depression and is staying with a friend, having lost almost all of her assets.
