Tragic events occurred on Wednesday when a stampede at a Christmas party in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, reportedly killed over 20 youngsters.
The incident was disputed, but it was claimed to have occurred at a Christmas celebration event that well-known broadcaster Oriyomi Hamzat had planned at his radio station.
During a family gathering at the Islamic High School in Basorun, there was a stampede that left several people dead and injured in the Children’s Funfair, according to sources.
Held at the location in Ibadan, the celebration promised prizes to attendees but turned tragedy when a rush broke out, causing pandemonium and killing many youngsters.
Participants were removed out of the premises as soon as the program was halted.
Several children have been taken to the University of Ibadan College Hospital, where medical personnel are attempting to save them, in addition to the deceased.
Although Agidigbo’s radio station denied planning the gathering to give children Christmas presents, Governor Seyi Makinde has offered his sympathies to the victims’ families, calling it a “very sad day” for Oyo State.
The state administration felt sorry for the parents whose happiness was abruptly cut short by the death of a loved one.
Governor Makinde sent security guards to reestablish order at the location in order to stop more deaths, while ambulances and medical staff were sent to treat injured people immediately.
After the tragedy broke, the state government quickly mobilized a rapid response team, according to Dotun Oyelade, Commissioner for Information and Orientation.
The commissioner revealed that victims received immediate medical assistance after being quickly taken to several hospitals in the city of Ibadan.
Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, the Commissioner for Health, was thanked by a physician who stated that reaction teams were promptly called in to help at the scene of the incident.
Oyelade declared that the Oyo administration would make every effort to support the victims of the tragic event during this difficult time.
He clarified that the Ministry of Health was not asked to supply any logistics to support the private children’s end-of-year funfair, nor was the state government engaged in any of the preparation.
It underlined how crucial effective coordination is when planning large-scale events, particularly when kids and senior citizens are involved.
The Commissioner stated that in order to determine the precise number of victims involved in this incident, a comprehensive report from the Commissioner of Police is awaited.
