The final moments of Isidro Cortés , director of Public Security for the municipality, were recorded on video while he was notified of his arrest as part of Operation Enjambre , implemented to combat corruption linked to organized crime in the region.
In the images, recorded by ministerial and state elements, the uniformed commander can be seen sitting at his desk with his head down, while listening to the reading of his rights as a presumed guilty party with possible links to drug trafficking.
“You have the right to be brought before the Public Prosecutor’s Office or the control judge, as the case may be. Did you understand your rights, sir?” was the question of one of the officers present.
At the end of this formality, the ministerial officers asked Cortés to hand over his service weapon. However, the police commander decided to shoot himself in the head, ending his life on the spot.
The tragic moment was also captured on video, in which the surprised reactions of those present can be heard. A woman who was taking part in the proceedings asked the officers to leave the office after the shot was fired.
The security command and its trajectory
Isidro Cortés had held the position of Director of Public Security of Texcaltitlán since 2019, a period that coincided with the administration of then-mayor Javier Lujano Huerta, of the Democratic Revolutionary Party (PRD).
This municipality is the scene of tensions related to drug trafficking. In December 2023, a confrontation between residents and hitmen from La Familia Michoacana left 14 dead, 11 of them identified as members of the criminal group.
