Ricky Starks has been off AEW television for the bulk of 2024, and with him having confirmed he isn’t injured, it appears it’s due to Tony Khan opting not to use him. Why this is the case is currently unclear, although it has been strongly speculated that Sparks is looking to join WWE when his contract expires. Still, any fans hoping to see Starks on WWE television anytime soon are set for disappointment, as Fightful Select has confirmed that his contract will run into mid-2025.
“Fightful Select learned via numerous AEW sources that AEW had an option year in the spring of 2024 in which they picked up. This extends Ricky Starks’ stay into the spring or summer of 2025.”

34-year-old Starks broke into the business in 2012, and during his first year in the business, he worked as an enhancement talent for WWE, putting over Jinder Mahal on SmackDown. From there, he worked on the indies and gained recognition online when he joined Billy Corgan’s NWA in 2018, going don’t to become the inaugural NWA World Television Champion. This exposure would lead to him being given his big break by Khan in 2020 when he booked him as Cody Rhodes’ open challenger for the AEW TNT Championship and was subsequently signed full-time.
