As Ten Hag exited after spending just over two years at Old Trafford, rival fans took to social media to mock United and the manager.
An X (formerly Twitter) handle named CFC-Blues was unhappy that the Red Devils sacked Ten Hag just before their encounter with Chelsea on Sunday saying: “Could have waited another week ffs.”
A handle named Chels_HQ wrote: “We will never forget him and what he did for this football club.”
An Arsenal fan handle with the handle Arsene Wenger’s Coat expressed his apparent sadness at Ten Hag leaving: “Everyone at Arsenal is extremely sad to hear this news.”
A Liverpool fan named Greezy mockingly wrote: “This is the worst day in modern football history.”
A Chelsea fan with the username cfcmaho, posted: “Terrible decision. He won you the FA and Carabao Cup.”
A fan named Ebuka slammed the Manchester club for parting ways with the Dutchman as he wrote: “Sacking a Legendary Manager because of an Overrated Garnacho is cruel.”
There has been speculation over the former Ajax coach’s future due to the club’s poor start to the new season. Earlier this month, a board meeting was held to discuss the possibility of sacking Ten Hag. However, at that point, nothing was decided. Last week, reports emerged that ex-Barcelona coach Xavi and Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim were on top of a four-man shortlist of candidates to succeed the Dutchman, but GOAL understands the ex-Barcelona boss has no plans to end his sabbatical.
