A couple on a motorcycle died on Sunday afternoon after colliding with a vehicle on the road that connects the Juan Ramón Molina bridge and the José de la Paz Herrera National Stadium in Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras.
It was initially reported that the victims of the traffic accident were a man and a woman , whose identities are currently unknown .
According to witnesses, the motorcycle driver was overtaking on the two-lane street when he collided with the front of the vehicle, a champagne-colored Ford Escape pickup truck with license plates HBA 7780.
A team of rescuers from the Honduran Fire Department and the Honduran Red Cross arrived at the scene, but the couple no longer showed vital signs.
Likewise, a team from the National Directorate of Roads and Transportation ( DNVT ) went to the scene to carry out the respective investigations and determine who is responsible for the case.
Forensic medicine personnel arrived later to remove the bodies and transfer them to the capital morgue.
Traffic accidents in Honduras
Traffic accidents are the second leading cause of death in the country, after homicides, according to data from the Violence Observatory.
As of November 10, the DNVT recorded 1,530 deaths and more than 2,800 people injured in at least 14,900 traffic accidents.
