“You are a public servant, it is your obligation to respond politely to every Honduran,” the deputy told Salgado.
The Honduran deputy and former ambassador to Canada, Beatriz Valle, asked the Minister of Strategic Planning, Ricardo Salgado, on Wednesday to use the dictionary so as not to have to resort to insults.
The reaction of Valle, who entered Congress with the Liberty and Refoundation (Libre) party, arose from a post on X (formerly Twitter) made by Salgado that included insulting comments towards opposition politicians in Honduras.
“Please reply without insulting. Spanish is very rich. You have used like 5 insults in a single post,” Valle wrote on the same social network, emphasizing that as a public official he has the obligation to address all Hondurans with respect, regardless of political differences.
The controversy arose when Salgado referred to the criticisms of the government of Xiomara Castro’s plan, which the opposition in Honduras considers to be Venezuela-style, leading the controversial official to call them “idiots” and “cipayos.”
In his post, the minister also attacked opposition figures, which provoked Valle’s rejection.
“What is identical is the opposition here and that of Venezuela. They beg the gringos to remove the popular governments because they cannot. They are cowards. During the repression of the people they only laughed while others did their dirty work. The other thing they have in common is their infinite stupidity and, above all, the contempt they feel for the people,” wrote Salgado.
The controversy highlights the growing tension between the government and the opposition in Honduras, where the language used by public officials in the current government leaves much to be desired.
