Edo Governor Declares State of Emergency in His State

Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has declared a State of Emergency on public schools following an inspection of their deteriorating conditions.

During a visit to Evbareke Secondary School in Egor and Army Day Secondary School in Ikpoba-Okha on Tuesday, March 25, the governor expressed shock and disappointment at the poor state of the learning environment.

I feel very bad, I must be honest with you. Look at this place—children are here studying. For me, it is unacceptable,” Okpebholo stated, visibly displeased.

Students and teachers at the schools shared distressing accounts of their daily struggles, citing dilapidated classrooms, leaky roofs, and unsanitary conditions.”

Sometimes when we arrive in the morning for classes, we find excreta littered all over the place,” a student lamented.

Teachers also raised concerns about the lack of basic facilities, urging the government to take urgent action.
