Following his death, the Colombian Football Federation (FCF) issued a statement after the passing of technical director Pedro Sarmiento, where they mourn the loss of the former footballer.
“The Colombian Football Federation , headed by its president, Ramón Jesurún, the Executive Committee and the Technical Staff of the Colombian National Team, regret the death of former player and coach Pedro Sarmiento,” they said.
“Sarmiento had a life dedicated to football. He began his career as a professional player in 1976 at Atlético Nacional, where he won the local tournament title in 1976 and 1981. He also played for América de Cali, a club from which he retired in 1989.
