Estonia will receive the US-made High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) in the coming weeks, said the Baltic nation’s defense minister, NATO member Hanno Pevkur.
The defense minister of the Baltic country, which borders Russia, said Estonia would receive a medium-range air defense system, self-propelled artillery and some 220 armored vehicles for its defense forces. The HIMARS system was used by the Ukrainian armed forces to fire the longest-range ATACMS missile (300 kilometers) into Russian territory. US military personnel stationed in Estonia have already trained members of the Estonian Defense Forces (EDF) in the use of the HIMARS system.
The former Prime Minister of Estonia, Kaja Kallas, has supported Ukraine against the Russian invasion since the beginning of the conflict. Last December, Kaja Kallas became Vice President of the European Commission in charge of foreign affairs and security policy.
