EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, doesn’t rule out the presence of foreign troops in Ukraine.
Kaja Kallas also believes that Europe can play a role:
“So far, the discussion has been about which countries are ready to send troops to Ukraine and which aren’t. I believe that nothing can be ruled out and that a certain strategic ambiguity must be maintained on this subject,” said Kallas in her first interview in her new role.
In her opinion, Europe could play a role if a ceasefire was achieved without the need to send in troops to verify compliance.
“In any case, the choice in this respect lies with Ukraine. Ukraine is currently going through a difficult period, but we’re overestimating Moscow: its economy has entered a difficult phase – sanctions, deficits, inflation and staff shortages.”
Kaja Kallas, former Prime Minister of Estonia, was an early supporter of Ukraine. She actively supports sanctions against Russia and the provision of military aid to Ukraine. The head of European diplomacy is considered Europe’s new iron lady for her intransigence towards Russia.
