The Forensic Genetic Serology Laboratory of the Public Ministry (MP) in Honduras takes a step forward with the support of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), whose experts instruct Honduran forensic experts in the management of the CODIS 11 system .
This technology is essential to strengthen justice in the country, allowing access to and processing of DNA data in criminal, civil and humanitarian investigations , as established by the National DNA Database Law.
Commitment to transparency and credibility
Mario García, Director of Forensic Medicine, emphasized the fundamental role that the Forensic Medicine Directorate has in the country’s justice system and its commitment to restore the citizens’ confidence in the Honduran judicial system.
“You have an essential role; there may be 200 witnesses to an incident, but your work provides the scientific truth, and you have my full support in strengthening your capabilities,” García said.
For the official, this FBI training represents a unique opportunity to give “a new face” to the Forensic Medicine Directorate.
To do so, they seek to generate credibility, improve transparency and position Honduras as a benchmark in the region in terms of identification and forensic analysis.
The training, which will last for a week, aims to ensure that the technical staff of the forensic laboratory achieves complete specialization in the management of CODIS 11.
This is the world’s leading software for managing genetic databases used by these state agencies.
During this process, experts will be immersed in advanced practices and knowledge for the collection, analysis and systematization of genetic information.
This information will then be used to feed the national database in compliance with legal regulations.
Salomón Nazar, representative of the DNA Project of the Consortium between the Center for Human Identification of the University of North Texas and GTH-DNA, spoke about the importance of this workshop.
