Fernandes Barasa, the famous governor of Kakamega County, has a background in finance and accounting.
He has previously served in a number of esteemed capacities, including managing director of Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited and chairman of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya.
He has received honours such as The Order of Grand Warrior in recognition of his national service.
Additionally, Barasa is actively involved in community development initiatives in Kakamega County, contributing significantly to transforming livelihoods in the region.
Recently, there have been legal issues involving extortion allegations against him, where a man was charged with attempting to extort Sh240 million from Barasa.

The recent news reports detail extortion claims against Barasa, involving an alleged demand of over KSh 240 million.
A 35-year-old man, William Simiyu Matere, also known as Elijah, has been charged with two counts related to this extortion attempt.
The charges include conspiring to commit an offense contrary to section 393 of the Penal Code and demanding property by threat contrary to section 302 of the Penal Code.
The accusations suggest that Matere, along with others, threatened and extorted the substantial sum from Governor Barasa between December 2023 and March 18, 2024.
The case is ongoing, with Matere being granted bail and the prosecution planning to call four witnesses, including Governor Barasa, to testify.
The governor had sought spiritual interventions from the man posing as a witch doctor to help him win the gubernatorial election.
He was reportedly taken through rituals while in his birthday suit.
Unknown to him, the entire process was being recorded on a secret camera. It is this footage that was allegedly used to blackmail him.
A leaked CCTV footage shows the alleged witch doctor and the governor performing rituals. This happened on October 05, 2021, during the heights of the 2022 general elections campaigning season.
According to the prosecution, the governor was constantly threatened by the man and group for months. Other reports indicate that he had already caved in and paid them Sh100 million.
He was released on a bond of KSh 2 million with a surety of the same amount. The case will be mentioned on March 28.
