The Golden Globes return to the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles this Sunday for their 82nd edition, marking the start of the awards season in Hollywood with ‘Emilia Pérez’, ‘Conclave’ and ‘The Brutalist ‘ among the big bets.
The gala, which is expected to be attended by a wide variety of celebrities, will begin at 5:00 p.m. local time (01:00 GMT on Monday) with Spaniard Javier Bardem (‘Monsters’), Mexican Diego Luna (‘La Máquina’) and Colombian Sofía Vergara (‘Griselda’) among the main Hispanic representatives of this edition.
The event will be hosted by Nikki Glaser , the first woman to present the awards solo, and personalities such as Elton John, Salma Hayek, Demi Moore and Vin Diesel will take to the stage to present the coveted awards to the night’s winners.
‘Emilia Pérez’ leads this year’s bets with ten nominations, including a nomination for best actress in a comedy or musical for Karla Sofía Gascón. If she wins, she would become the first Spanish woman to receive a Golden Globe and the first trans woman to do so in a film category.
The French director Jacques Audiard’s film, which follows the transition of a Mexican drug trafficker into a woman, is also competing in the categories of best comedy or musical film, where it will compete with films such as ‘Anora’ and ‘Wicked’; and best foreign language film, alongside titles such as the Brazilian ‘I’m Still Here’.
For its part, the film starring Adrien Brody ‘The Brutalist’ received seven nominations and is emerging as the favorite in the drama categories, where it will compete against critically acclaimed films such as ‘Conclave’, the second part of ‘Dune’ or ‘September 5’.
The comedy ‘The Bear’ leads the television categories with five nominations, followed by the ancient Japanese drama ‘Shogun’ and ‘Only Murders in the Building’, with four each.
In this edition, the actress of Puerto Rican roots Liza Colón-Zayas hopes to win the award for best supporting actress in a series while the actress of Dominican origin Zoe Saldaña could win her first Golden Globe in the same category but for film for her performance in ‘ Emilia Pérez’.
Brazilian actress Fernanda Torres is also in the running for best drama actress alongside Hollywood stars such as Nicole Kidman and Angelina Jolie, who are seeking their seventh and fourth awards, respectively.
