WHAT HAPPENED?
Ruben Amorim’s move to Manchester United from Sporting has led to speculation the Portuguese boss could raid his former club in a bid to strengthen his Red Devils team. United have reportedly already enquired about Quenda, but it has now emerged that the club have been interested in the wonderkid for some time.
THE BIGGER PICTURE
The Red Devils first sent scouts to watch Quenda last season as he fits into the current profile of targeting youngsters with the potential to grow, according to The Telegraph. United are now preparing a €60 million (£50m) plus bonuses offer to Sporting and hope to bring him in next summer after he turns 18, as reported by A Bola. Quenda is contracted to Sporting until 2027 and is said to be keen to reunite with Amorim at Old Trafford.
DID YOU KNOW?
Amorim handed Quenda his senior debut at Sporting and has hinted he could go hunting at his former club next summer, although he says he won’t be signing any Sporting players in January.
WHAT NEXT
Amorim may well be keeping a close eye on Sporting’s next game against Arsenal in the Champions League to see how Quenda fares up against Premier League opposition ahead of a potential move to Old Trafford. The youngster has already impressed against English opposition this season, bagging an assist in Sporting’s 4-1 win over Manchester City.
