US Vice President and Democratic candidate for the White House, Kamala Harris , said on Monday that she is “proud” to have the support of artists such as Bad Bunny and Jennifer Lopez , who had already expressed their support for her before racist comments about Puerto Rico were made at a Donald Trump rally on Sunday.

“I’m so proud to have the support of people like Bad Bunny , Jennifer Lopez and others who were supporting me before that nonsense last night at Madison Square Garden ,” Harris said in a brief statement to reporters upon her arrival in Michigan .

Puerto Rico has been in the spotlight in the final stretch of the November 5 elections after comedian Tony Hinchcliffe , who opened a rally in New York for former president (2017-2021) and Republican candidate Donald Trump , called it a “floating garbage island” on Sunday.

Her words provoked a wave of reactions of rejection towards Trump and support for Harris ‘ proposals , including those of the aforementioned artists and others such as Ricky Martin, Luis Fonsi or René Pérez (Residente).

Harris stressed on Monday that people support her because they want a presidency that “lifts up” citizens and does not despise them, that does not call the United States “the garbage can” of the world, as Trump has said at other recent events.

The Democratic candidate announced her plan for Puerto Rico just this Sunday in a place full of symbolism: the Fairhill neighborhood in Philadelphia, known as ‘ The Golden Center’ , the epicenter of the Puerto Rican community for more than half a century.
