Did you already make one of those creepy Halloween pumpkins? Then no doubt you want it to shine for as long as possible too. Radio 2 provides the following tips to enjoy your Halloween pumpkin for a very long time.
Flesh
Because the flesh inside the pumpkin rots quickly, it is important to scrape the pumpkin thoroughly.
Outside
Most people store the Halloween pumpkin outside. If you store it indoors, it is best to place it in the refrigerator overnight or just outside. Putting it in a plastic bag at night would also help.
Electric lights
An actual candle in your pumpkin will shorten its shelf life. Go for electric tea lights or battery-powered Christmas lights.
Greasing
Lubricating the pumpkin on the outside and the cut edges with sunflower oil or petroleum jelly would help. This makes the pumpkin water repellent. Spraying the inside with hairspray or smearing it with petroleum jelly or epoxy resin can also stop the rotting process. To prevent mold from forming, you can also soak the pumpkin in a bowl of water and a dash of chlorine for a few minutes. Drain and pat dry well.
