Sarah Boone, a now 47-year-old Florida woman, has been found guilty of murder for the 2020 death of her boyfriend, Jorge Torres Jr.
Boone claimed that Torres was accidentally killed during a game of hide-and-seek: he allegedly hid in a suitcase and zipped it up himself. The woman thought he would get out of the suitcase by himself, but fell asleep. The next morning, she found him lifeless.
During the trial, videos were shown from the woman’s phone showing Torres begging to be let out, saying he could not breathe, while Boone mocked and taunted him. To his pleas, she responded by saying he got what he deserved and made allusions to his alleged infidelity.
Boone’s defence argued that she suffered from ‘battered spouse syndrome’, but the jury found her guilty. On 2 December, the woman will know her sentence.
