Ìrágbìjí Town
Ìrágbìjí consists of 194 villages grouped into 22 districts, each governed by a Baale, who in turn is supported by chiefs.
Ìrágbìjí is situated in Boripe Local Government, Osun State.
The Origin of the Name Ìrágbìjí
The name Ìrágbìjí originated from an encounter between Sunkúngbádé and Kasaun at the base of an Ira tree. At the time, the Ira tree was providing shade. When describing the location, they would say they were going to the foot of the Ira tree that has shade. “Ira” means tree and “Ooji” means shade, which combined to form “Ìrá to gba Ìjí,” eventually evolving into Ìrágbìjí.
Historical Landmarks in Ìrágbìjí
Orí Òkè: This site is recognized through the annual Orí Òkè festival, the largest cultural event in Ìrágbìjí, celebrated every July. It also marks the beginning of the new yam harvest.
Ayeye Stream: In the past, this stream was believed to have medicinal healing properties.
Okanyilulu Site: Celebrated for its historical significance.
Igbodu (Forest of Odu): Associated with Odu Ifa.
Alagaso Stream.
According to the current monarch, Oba Rasheed Olabomi Odundun IV, despite the rise of Islam and Christianity, cultural events in Ìrágbìjí have been preserved to honor the heritage of the community’s founding fathers
