Honduran Man Dies When He Went Out To Get Ice For His Mother Wake
The Teleño had gone out in search of ice for the people who accompanied him at his mother’s wake, but now both will be buried together.
A Honduran man lost his life after he went out on his motorcycle to get ice for his mother’s wake in the city of Tela, department of Atlántida, in northern Honduras.
According to witness reports, the accident occurred when José , known as ‘Chepe’, failed to see some stone blocks placed on the street due to repair work in front of the Tela sports centre.
Due to the lack of adequate signage in the construction zone and the darkness of the night , Chepe, who was apparently traveling at low speed, lost control of his motorcycle.
This caused him to overturn, causing serious injuries that caused his immediate death , according to local media.
He was watching over his mother and went out to buy ice.
The most heartbreaking thing about the incident is that Chepe had gone out to buy ice for the wake of his mother, who had died hours before him.
It has been reported on social media that the Honduran man had been drinking alcohol during the wake and had even threatened to kill one of his sisters.
However, people close to José’s family who were present at the lady’s last farewell denied this version .
“How strange, at what time did that threat happen because I was present at the wake and it never happened and I imagine that you sold him the alcohol so that he is saying that he was intoxicated,” clarified a friend on Facebook.
The bodies of mother and son are now being laid to rest at the same time and are expected to be given a holy burial in the coming hours.
Tela police are also investigating the accident and reviewing road safety conditions at the scene to determine who is responsible.
Deaths in traffic accidents
In the first two months of the year, a total of 2,496 traffic accidents have been recorded , according to the Online Police Statistical System ( Sepol ).
Most cases have been recorded in Francisco Morazán (1,054), Cortés (1,024), Choluteca (107) and Comayagua (53).
250 Hondurans have lost their lives in these accidents , the majority in Cortés (57), Francisco Morazán (47) and Comayagua (21).
