House Arrest For Driver of Fatal Accident on The Periférico Ring Road
One of the main hypotheses behind the accident is that the driver was under the influence of alcohol.
The Criminal Court on Friday ordered house arrest for David Asael Maradiaga Carías, accused of homicide with eventual intent and reckless driving to the detriment of Dariel Isahí Rodas Rozales.
The decision was made during the defendant’s statement, while the initial hearing was scheduled for Friday, March 14 at 8:30 in the morning.
Case details and accusations
David Asael Maradiaga Carías faces two charges:
- Homicide with eventual intent , a crime that according to the current Penal Code carries a lesser penalty than simple homicide, the sanction of which ranges from 15 to 20 years in prison.
- Reckless driving , with a possible sentence of 6 months to 3 years in prison.
According to investigations, one of the main hypotheses for the accident is that the driver was under the influence of alcohol.
In addition, authorities from the National Directorate of Roads and Transportation (DNVT) confirmed that Maradiaga had not had a valid driver’s license since 2021.

Evidence and statements from the Public Prosecutor’s Office
For her part, the spokesperson for the Public Prosecutor’s Office , Lorena Cálix, explained that the technical report of the case indicates that, at the time of the accident, the accused refused to take the breathalyzer test.
However, the document also notes that Maradiaga’s state of intoxication was evident to the authorities who summoned him to the scene of the accident.

Court decision and measures imposed
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the capital’s criminal courts, Bárbara Castillo, explained that the precautionary measure applied to Maradiaga is house arrest , protected by article 173 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
He was also banned from leaving the country and will be under the supervision of his legal representative.
Details of the accident and transfer of the victim
The tragic accident occurred on Thursday in the early hours of the morning on the Tegucigalpa Periférico ring road, near the Cabañas neighborhood.
The van in which Maradiaga was traveling collided with a truck parked in the center of the lane, causing the death of Dariel Isahí Rodas Rozales, who was riding as co-pilot.
This Friday, the young man’s remains were transferred to La Ceiba, Atlántida, where family and friends said their last goodbyes amid deep pain and demands for justice.
