“We’re not killing anyone… We’re doing it for our own good,” is part of the audio of Dr. Kevin Malouf and his team following the death of Honduran woman Floridalma Roque.

In the last few hours, an audio recording has been revealed that has taken an unexpected turn in the case of plastic surgeon Kevin Malouf , accused of the disappearance and death of his patient, the Honduran Floridalma Roque in Guatemala City.

The audio recorded after Roque’s death at Malouf’s clinic shows compromising conversations between the surgeon and his team.

In the recording, Malouf and his collaborators are heard discussing how to manipulate the investigation into Roque’s death, including eliminating evidence and fabricating a false account of his release from the clinic.

” When they come for her tomorrow, we’ll go out and say that she left , that they called her for an emergency, she felt pretty well and left , but she said she was going to contact us,” we hear.

Even his team agreed with the plan, adding that Malouf was already under investigation by the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

“Do you understand my situation? Even if you don’t think the same, it’s enough for me that you support me, ” says Kevin while one of the team replies, “Yes, we understand.”

Elsewhere, Malouf tells them that “from an ethical point of view we are not killing someone , we are not covering up a crime, we are doing it for the good of ourselves , for everyone; the only thing we are doing is not giving him a holy burial with his relatives .”

Consequences and reactions

The audio was not played during the hearings in the case, but its content has been enough to revive investigations and questions about Malouf’s ethical practices.

The community and the victim’s family have expressed outrage and demand complete and transparent justice in the process, reported Guatemalan media Prensa Libre.

Legal developments

On March 5, the  plastic surgeon  was convicted by a Guatemalan court for the manslaughter  of  Honduran Floridalma Roque , who hid her body after she died in his clinic during an operation.

However, it was established that he would not go to prison as he accepted the charges and that the  sentence was commutable.

Criminal judge Pedro Laynez  sentenced Malouf to five years in prison , but upon accepting his guilt the sentence was reduced to three years  and four months with the right to bail of 1,300 dollars , about 33,400 lempiras at the current exchange rate.

But on Monday, March 10, the Constitutional Court (CC) annulled the judicial benefits granted to him. Due to the CC’s resolution, the doctor will not be able to assert those benefits and leave prison.
