With just a little more than a month to go before the great work of love begins, Teletón is preparing for its annual event. How much is the goal for Teletón 2024? A question that every year represents a challenge that all Hondurans take on.
On October 1st, the launch of the Teletón 2024 campaign took place, where the president of the foundation’s national board of directors, Rafael Villeda , was present and gave a few words reminding that the foundation makes the greatest efforts to raise the quality of services.
Telethon: its history with Honduras
Thirty-one years ago, a group of men and women took the initiative to extend a helping hand to thousands of Hondurans who needed to receive proper attention for their problems, some congenital and others due to accidents, due to their disabilities.
In 1987, José Rafael Ferrari , president of the Televicentro television network , made the first broadcast of the Telethon on Honduran television, and since then, Televicentro has been in charge of broadcasting the event year after year on all its channels.
As a non-profit institution, it obtains its funds from annual Telethon events , donations and the cooperation of international humanitarian institutions, which contribute to providing medical, psychological, social and educational support services to people with disabilities.
How much is the goal for Teletón 2024 and what days will it be?
For this 2024 edition, the Teletón aims to raise 75 million lempiras , which will be allocated to the different rehabilitation centers throughout Honduras.

How many Telethon centers are there?
The Teletón Foundation is present in various parts of the country to welcome people from all over Honduras, supporting children, young people, older adults, men and women who require specialized assistance and special equipment that the foundation makes available to them.
Telethon currently has centers located in the cities of Tegucigalpa, San Pedro Sula, Santa Rosa de Copán, Choluteca, Catacamas and La Esperanza, Intibucá.
Rafael Villeda, president of the foundation’s national board of directors, said that year after year, the greatest efforts are made to improve the quality of services.
“During this year 2024 and the two years to come, we will be sharing with all of you the efforts made by the Teletón Foundation to improve its services for all those who seek care in different parts of the country,” said Rafael Villeda.
He also took the opportunity to invite Hondurans to join this noble cause. “I invite you to continue supporting us with your love and donations. I am sure that together we will meet the goal of 75 million lempiras that we have set for this year,” he added.
What services does Teletón provide?
Their commitment to providing assistance to the Honduran population, offers a variety of services and programs for all patients who need them. These services include:
- Medical area : the Physiatrist or Rehabilitation Doctor provides evaluation, diagnosis, disability prognosis services and indicates the treatment plan to be carried out in the different therapeutic areas and other services.
- Therapeutic areas : CEMS (Multisensory Stimulation Room), hydrotherapy, adult physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and children’s physical therapy.
- Support areas : education and inclusion, information and appointments, psychology, social work, shelter and orthotics and prosthetics laboratory.
Telethon Foundation Programs
- Detects : aims to facilitate the detection of conditions that cause disability in children from 0 to 5 years old .
- POETA : is a social development model created by The Trust for the Americas , an entity affiliated with the Organization of American States (OAS) .
- Teletón te mover : donation of wheelchairs for people who need them.
How to be a Telethon volunteer?
If you want to be part of the Teletón family, there is a volunteer group made up of people willing to carry out activities related to the Teletón event.
You must meet certain requirements . These are: Be over 18 years old, complete the application form and sign a commitment stating the day and time you agree to carry out your volunteer activities.
