On Thursday, October 10, the death of Francisca Mena , mother of Caterine Ibargüen , was announced . The woman died in a clinic in Medellín, Colombia, and the news was confirmed by the Athletics League of Antioquia.
” With deep respect, the Antioquia Athletics League sends its condolences to Caterine Ibargüen on the passing of her mother, Francisca Mena. May her memory always be a blessing ,” the sports organization said.
The reasons for her death are not yet known and the current contestant of MasterChef Celebrity 2024 has not made any statement on the matter, but it is expected that she will speak out in the next few hours.

Who was Francisca Mena?
The relationship between Caterine Ibargüen and her mother was always good and even in previous interviews the Olympic medalist has assured that Francisca was a constant source of support and motivation during her sporting career.
Mena comes from a humble family in Urabá, Antioquia, but despite living in difficult conditions, she raised her daughter with solid values, instilling in her a love of sport and qualities that led Ibargüen to win several awards.
Francisca Mena lived much of her life on a farm called La Suert, in a rural area, but her daughter had to be raised by her grandmother due to the armed conflict in Colombia.

Caterine has not spoken out, but every time she had the opportunity she spoke about her mother and always showed her love, as she did in an episode of MasterChef.

” I am very aware that she is a proud mother. There is not a day that I wake up and the first call is for her, there is not a night that I go to bed and the last call is for her ,” she mentioned on that occasion.
He added: ” I know that I am the result of her and my grandmother, of what they would like to see as a person ” and ended by saying: ” She is my engine. My mother is my gasoline, my mother is my everything .”
