The Tegucigalpa morgue was once again the scene of anguish and pain, with several bodies of people who had died in various circumstances being admitted. Among them, there was the case of Jafet Enrique García Hernández , a 26-year-old young man, whose body was found near the Choluteca River .
The victims’ families waited in silence as the night passed, visibly affected by the tragedy.
In the midst of this desolate atmosphere, a heartbroken mother shared the last moments she spent with her son before his death.
“He showed me a tattoo he had gotten and said, ‘I’m going to carry your name until I die, mother.’ That was the last thing he said to me,” the woman told a local media outlet, calling for justice for her son’s death.
The fateful outcome
According to the mother’s testimony, Jafet had traveled from Langue, Valle, to participate in a political rally of the Liberty and Refoundation (Libre) party in Tegucigalpa.
However, due to his lack of knowledge of the city and his state of intoxication, he was abandoned near the river by people who accompanied him , which would have resulted in his death.
Jafet’s body was one of six that entered the morgue in the last few hours, all under violent circumstances, reflecting a reality that contradicts official crime reduction figures.
Ongoing research
Authorities have not yet provided conclusive details about the case, but the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the National Police are expected to carry out the relevant investigations to determine the causes of the young man’s death and clarify who is responsible.
Meanwhile, Jafet’s family is preparing to move him to Langue, Valle, where he will be given a final farewell. His mother, visibly affected, reiterated her call to the authorities to ensure that justice is done and that her son’s case does not go unpunished.
