On Monday January 13, Germany announced the opening of an investigation into the flight of at least ten drones over a military zone, the origin of which appears to be suspicious.
On Sunday evening, local police “were informed of a drone flight over the Manching military security zone”, the Eurofighter aircraft manufacturing site north of Munich. This isn’t the first time that German authorities have observed suspicious craft flying “over Federal Army installations in Manching and Neuburg-on-Danube”. As reported by 20 Minutes, on December 16, 18 and 25, drones were spotted by military personnel or witnesses over the Manching military zone “for which a no-fly zone prevails”. On December 19, several flying machines were also spotted in Neubourg.
Today, the authorities hope, via an appeal for witnesses, to be able to identify “suspicious persons or vehicles” in the two zones concerned, and to gather evidence or clues relating to “possible espionage attempts”.
Without taking direct aim at Moscow, Germany believes that it may be a case of spying on “military installations and arms partners or companies” in “the context of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine”.
