In Yoro an 8 Year Old Child was Washed away by the Humuya River and Later Discovered Dead.
The minor was swept away by the river current while enjoying a walk with her family.
After 48 hours of intense searching, rescuers from the Fire Department managed to recover the lifeless body of Cristina Isabel Gutiérrez Galo , an 8-year-old girl who drowned in the waters of the mighty Humuya River , in the La Unión sector, municipality of Victoria, department of Yoro.
Tragedy on a recreation day
The incident occurred last Sunday when the minor, along with her family, went to the area in the morning to enjoy the river, unaware of the terrible event.
The current swept the girl away, quickly disappearing from the sight of her loved ones.
From that moment on, relatives, neighbors, and other residents of the area organized and began an intense search downriver, combing every corner of the riverbed in an effort to find her, but without obtaining favorable results in the first few hours.

Search and discovery of the body
The search continued until Tuesday night, when authorities at the La Vegona and El Cajón dams agreed to close the floodgates to reduce the river’s flow.
It was then that the minor’s body was found in a remote area of the Victoria sector, Yoro, in northern Honduras.
The Fire Department, in coordination with volunteers and residents, worked tirelessly to recover the body of the girl, who was originally from San Pedro Sula and was visiting Victoria, Yoro.
Pain and farewell
Cristina Isabel’s body was taken by her relatives to San Pedro Sula, where she was held and later buried.
The minor was studying at the Soledad Fernández School in the Barandillas neighborhood of San Pedro Sula, an institution that issued a mourning statement expressing regret for her tragic death.
The community is devastated by the loss and has expressed its condolences to the Gutiérrez Galo family during this difficult time.
