International Criminal Court seeks to arrest Taliban leaders for discrimination
Prosecutors at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague have issued arrest warrants for two Taliban leaders on suspicion of crimes against humanity related to widespread discrimination against women and girls in Afghanistan.
ICC judges have yet to formalize the two arrest warrants, however, and that may take some time.
Taliban leader Haibatullah Akhundzada and justice chief Abdul Hakim Haqqani are suspected of crimes against humanity in the area of gender, especially regarding women and girls.
The Taliban returned to power in 2021 causing women and girls to lose almost all their rights and freedom. They are completely banned from public life and now window construction was also restricted to completely hide women and girls from view in Afghanistan.
