Mena has managed to keep his family life private, as little or nothing is known about his personal environment. However, it is known that he has been married for several years to Noemí , with whom he has two children: Alain and Klara.

In several interviews, she has made clear the importance of her family in her life: “We have two lovely children and we feel that we need each other; nothing could happen without the other. Sometimes I feel like I live two different lives, but we have managed, with sacrifice, to make it one ,” she commented.

Biography of Juanjo Mena

Mena’s professional career began in 1999, when he took up the post of artistic director of the Bilbao Symphony Orchestra. He subsequently held leading positions such as principal conductor of the Bergen Philharmonic, principal guest conductor of the Orchestra of the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa and associate conductor of the Spanish National Orchestra.

Throughout his career, he has led some of Europe’s most renowned orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, Bavarian Radio Philharmonic, Leipzig Gewandhaus, and the London Philharmonic, Oslo Philharmonic, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Dresden Philharmonic, Bergen Philharmonic, and La Scala. He has also worked with prestigious symphonies such as the Danish National Symphony, the Swedish Radio Symphony, and the Orchestre National de France, among many others.

Since his  North American debut  with the  Baltimore Symphony in 2004,  he has conducted most of the continent’s major orchestras. In Asia, he regularly conducts the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo.
