On Monday, Washington announced the launch of a $2.5 billion security assistance program for Ukraine.
Ahead of the return of President-elect Donald Trump on January 20, the Biden administration is pulling out all the stops to help Kiev and support its war efforts. Outgoing President Joe Biden said in a statement, “I’m proud to announce nearly $2.5 billion in security assistance for Ukraine today, as the Ukrainian people continue to defend their independence and freedom from Russian aggression”.
Defense officials in early December 2024 had admitted that the US would not be able to send Ukraine the full $5.6 billion remaining in equipment and weapons before Donald Trump’s inauguration.
