JUST IN: Chaos As Anyanwu, Ude-Okoye Storm BoT Meeting
Amid a very tensed and chaotic atmosphere, the Peoples Democratic Party leaders, parading themselves as the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu and former Youth Leader Sunday Ude-Okoye, are currently attending the Board of Trustees meeting.
PDP BoT Chairman and former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara, officially began the meeting at 12:05 p.m. in Abuja.
Meanwhile, Anyanwu was present from the beginning, while Ude-Okoye was said to have arrived at precisely 12:10 p.m.
The meeting, which entered a closed-door session shortly thereafter, is coming on the heels of a major internal crisis facing the leadership of the party especially as it concerns the controversy conflicts surrounding the National Secretary position.
Recall that, in 2023, the PDP’s South East zone nominated former National Youth Leader Sunday Ude-Okoye to replace Anyanwu as National Secretary after he was chosen as the party’s candidate for the Imo State governorship election.
The South East PDP contended that Anyanwu should no longer hold the position following his selection as the Imo candidate, sparking further controversy.
On December 20, 2024, the Appeal Court in Enugu upheld Ude-Okoye as the PDP National Secretary, and the decision was formally communicated to the party leadership on December 24.
However, last week, the Court of Appeal in Abuja issued a restraining order, directing Anyanwu to remain National Secretary until the Supreme Court resolves the appeal.
