Justice Questions The New Version of The Spaniard Who Killed a Woman
The murderer of Honduran Heidi Paz changes his version of the crime, but the Spanish court rejects it and asks him to provide evidence to the Police.
A Spanish court has ruled that the new version of events provided by the man who killed young Honduran woman Heidi Paz in 2018 is “incompatible” with the evidence provided in court and has asked him to provide the police with any information on the whereabouts of the victim’s missing remains.
The Madrid Court, which tried and convicted Spaniard César Román for the crime in 2021, considers that the letter he recently sent to the court is an attempt to “gain notoriety.”
In a ruling to which EFE had access, the president of the court thus responds to Román ‘s writing , in which he claims that it was an uncle of his, now deceased, who dismembered Heidi Paz ‘s body after he accidentally killed her.
In addition, it indicates that the remains that have yet to be found are in the municipality of Carranque, province of Toledo (center) .
He was sentenced to 15 years in prison for homicide and desecration of a corpse, with the aggravating circumstances of kinship, since they were a couple, and gender.
What does the letter from the ‘King of Cachopo’ say about Heidi Paz’s death?
In the letter he claims that he killed her in an argument in the warehouse where part of the remains were found, where they struggled with a gun and he shot her in the head without meaning to.
He then asked an uncle for help, who got rid of the body, without him knowing that he had dismembered it.
This is a new version of the crime, since for years Román, nicknamed ‘the king of Cachopo’ (a typical dish from the northern region of Asturias), denied having killed Heidi Paz.
After being sentenced, he admitted for the first time, in a letter also sent to the Provincial Court , that he did kill her, but without giving details, but that he did offer to tell the family.
15 years in prison for the ‘king of Cachopo’
In the sentence that condemned him, ratified by the High Court of Justice of Madrid and by the Spanish Supreme Court , he was sentenced to 15 years in prison for killing Heidi, amputating the corpse (head, arms and legs) and trying to destroy it with a chemical solution and setting fire to a warehouse.
The judge believes that the convicted man “is offering a new version of the facts that is incompatible with what was proven in the oral trial and is apparently aimed at gaining notoriety, given its dissemination to the media.”
And he points out that any information he wishes to provide on the whereabouts of the remains of the victim “must be brought to the attention of the police authority”, since the court “only has jurisdiction to execute what is ordered in the sentence.”
According to police sources, the security forces will not act until the judicial authorities order it .
