North Korea is furious. The United States has sent a nuclear-powered fast-attack submarine to the port of Busan, South Korea.
The 7,800-ton U.S. Navy vessel is the first time since it was commissioned four years ago that the USS Vermont has directed it to South Korea for refueling.
After stopping the nuclear submarine in enemy territory on September 23, Kim Jong-un’s sister drowned the Americans in criticism. “The United States will have to demonstrate its ‘overwhelming capability’ by surfacing, even with a submarine whose mission is to carry out a definitive nuclear strike under the sea, nothing will work ,” Kim Yo Jong grumbled in a recent statement, relayed by Newsweek . She went on to assure that Pyongyang would respond to this major provocation.
No appeasement, then. According to Kim Yo Jong, Deputy Director of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, the arrival of the American submarine “clearly reveals the unbridled military and strategic attempt of the United States” . Adding: “Washington is in a situation of unprecedented strategic inferiority in the Korean Peninsula and in the Asia-Pacific region” , and is terrified by the “strong power of independence of North Korea with regard to the United States”.
The North Korean leader’s sister concluded by promising that her country’s nuclear deterrent would be “strengthened in quality and quantity in a continuous and unlimited manner, because the security of the state is constantly exposed to the nuclear threat and blackmail of the United States.”
