Singer Lady Gaga first addressed rumors that circulated about her when she was 20, despite constant questions from the media.
During the early years of her career, Lady Gaga faced a rumor spread by the press and the public that claimed she was actually a man, however, the singer and actress revealed that this rumor never offended her nor did she feel the need to deny it, as she did not see herself as a victim of that “lie.”
Prior to the theatrical release of Joker: Folie à Deux , in which she plays Harley Quinn, Gaga appeared on the show What’s Next? The Future with Bill Gates, hosted by the Microsoft co-founder.
“The reason I didn’t answer the question was because I didn’t feel like a victim of that lie. But I also thought about what a kid who is being accused of the same thing would think when they see that a public figure like me feels ashamed of it,” she shared.
She went on to say, “What would it be like for a public figure like me to feel shame? I’ve been in situations where fixing a rumor wasn’t in the best interest of other people .”
What did Lady Gaga say about the rumors about her?
Lady Gaga also recalled how, from the very beginning of her career, she was the subject of absurd rumours. When she was 20, journalists used to ask her if she was actually a man.
In a 2009 interview with ABC News, she said she was not bothered by the rumors, and even noted that she enjoyed “androgyny” as part of her artistic expression.
In her recent conversation with Bill Gates , Gaga stressed that her eccentric performances are what’s most authentic to her as an artist, much more “than all the rumors that are told about me to generate more clicks.”
She said she has grown accustomed to “misinformation,” adding, ” I’m used to having lies published about me . I’m an artist, I find it funny.”
