Carsley took charge of the senior English side as a stop-gap manager after Gareth Southgate resigned from his post following the team’s heartbreaking Euro 2024 final defeat against Spain. Carsley was initially brought in to manage the Three Lions for their first two Nations League group stage matches in September, but The Telegraph reports that the FA raised his salary significantly earlier in August, in what could be a hint towards a permanent position.
England play their remaining Nations League group matches in October and November and there is a possibility that Carsley could manage the team at least until November 17 when they face Ireland in their final group game. After that, the team won’t be in action until March, which will give the FA plenty of time to take a long-term decision.
