British Prime Minister Keir Starmer wants to build a “more pragmatic and mature relationship” with the European Union.

This was stated by the Labour Party leader on Tuesday, on the eve of his first visit to Brussels.

On 31 January 2020, the United Kingdom left the European Union. The new British Prime Minister now wants to review and further develop relations with the EU. “The UK is undeniably stronger when it works closely with its closest international partners. This has never been more important, with war, conflict and insecurity knocking on Europe’s door ,” Starmer said in a statement.

“We can only meet these challenges by acting together, which is why I am determined to put the Brexit years behind us and build a more pragmatic and mature relationship with the European Union,” he added. “Better cooperation with the EU will deliver the benefits the British people deserve: securing our borders, ensuring our security and driving economic growth.”

However, Starmer reiterates that this is not, in any case, about cancelling Brexit.
