A supernatural phenomenon is approaching and Hondurans will have the opportunity to observe with the naked eye a lunar eclipse that will occur this Tuesday, September 17 in Honduras 2024. The blood moon will last until dawn the following day.
A Blood Moon spectacle will be visible throughout Honduras, offering citizens a view of the Moon partially obscured by a faint reddish shadow that can be observed without the need for special equipment.
Roberto Carías , director of science and astronomy at the Western International School , explained that the eclipse will cover 8.5 percent of the lunar surface, creating a subtle but interesting effect.
September lunar eclipse in Honduras 2024
The astronomical event will begin to be visible around 7:00 pm, local time in Honduras , and will not require the use of special equipment such as binoculars or telescopes for observation.
The blood moon eclipse occurs when the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon, casting its shadow on the satellite. Carías explained that the phenomenon will be visible in the same proportion throughout the American continent, offering observers a unique opportunity to enjoy the spectacle.
September 17, 2024 coincides with the Full Harvest Moon , also known as the Harvest Moon . This lunar event, which occurs close to the autumn equinox in the northern hemisphere, is characterized by illuminating the sky after sunset.
When will the next lunar eclipse occur?
Carías also reported that, according to the astronomical calendar, a total lunar eclipse will be visible on March 14, 2024 , a phenomenon that promises to be more spectacular, and it will also be possible to see one of the most important stars on Earth.
The reason we don’t see a lunar eclipse every month is because the Moon’s orbit is tilted about 5 degrees relative to the Earth’s orbit. This tilt means that the perfect alignment needed for an eclipse doesn’t occur every lunar cycle.
