Man Arrested For Injuring Dog While Defending Its Owner
The attacker is being investigated for threats against the woman, who was also a victim of domestic violence.
A 52-year-old man was arrested in the La Urrutia neighborhood in Danlí, El Paraíso, after being reported for seriously injuring a dog named Duquesa with a machete.
The attack occurred while Duchess was trying to protect her owner, who was being subjected to violence by the attacker.
The case has sparked outrage and highlighted the importance of animal protection and the fight against domestic violence in Honduras.
Arrest of the man
The arrest was carried out by agents of the National Directorate of Prevention and Community Security (DNPSC).
The officers immediately responded to the call for help.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers found Duquesa with serious injuries caused by the machete.
They immediately took her to a nearby veterinary clinic for urgent care.
Attack and domestic violence
According to preliminary reports, Duquesa was attacked while trying to defend her owner, who was being physically assaulted.
The attacker, a man originally from and resident of Danlí, used a machete to injure the dog, which has been classified as a case of animal abuse.
In addition, the attacker is being investigated for threats against the woman, who was also a victim of domestic violence.
The legal process and the consequences for the man
The attacker, whose name has not been revealed, was arrested at the scene and placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The Prosecutor’s Office will assess the degree of responsibility for the crime of animal abuse, as well as the threats against the woman.
The Danlí community and local authorities have been firm in their fight against gender violence.
