Melania was first discovered by Slovenian photographer Stane Jerko while he was sitting on a fence waiting for his friend to finish walking in a fashion show. “It was January 1987 when I came home just before the fashion show ended,” Jerko said in an interview. “On the steps of the Festival Hall, I saw a girl who immediately caught my eye. There she was – a tall, slim, attractive girl with long hair and very prominent eyes . ”
That girl was Melania Knauss . The photographer invited her to his studio for a test shoot. For her first photo shoot, Knauss brought her own wardrobe, and Jerko commented that the first images were “very promising.”
From there, she began her career in modeling, participating in major catwalks in Europe. Knauss continued working as a model in Milan and Paris before moving to New York in 1996, where she met and married Donald Trump.
