Unknown individuals murdered the mayor of the Mexican municipality of Candelaria Loxicha, Román Ruíz Bohórquez, in the state of Oaxaca on Tuesday , which represents the second murder of a municipal president in southern Mexico in less than 10 days.
The governor of Oaxaca, Salomón Jara , confirmed the murder on his social networks, although without giving more details of the case, which is already under investigation.
“We regret this event and send our deepest condolences to his family . The Prosecutor’s Office is already working on the case and we are going to guarantee that this event does not go unpunished,” said Jara, of the ruling National Regeneration Movement (Morena).
Local media reported that during the night, unknown persons killed Ruiz Bohórquez with a knife in his home.
The municipal president, elected under the local organization Planilla Blanca, was a professor at the Autonomous Communal University of Oaxaca (UACO), which condemned the homicide.
“We express our condolences to the family and the community that is today in community mourning. May your path be blessed, dear teacher, you shared with us not only the vision of a more dignified life in common for all, but you accompanied us with clarity and guidance to continue with this project,” he said in a statement.
This is the second murder of a mayor in less than 10 days in southern Mexico, where on October 6, the opposition Alejandro Arcos , mayor of Chilpancingo, capital of Guerrero, was beheaded in an event that has not yet been fully clarified.
These events show that the murders of politicians have not ended after the elections considered the most violent in Mexico , those of June 2 , with more than 30 candidates killed, according to civil organizations, although the Mexican Government has only recognized the murder of 12 candidates. EFE
