NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte sees Operation Baltic Sentinel as a means of protecting underwater infrastructure.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has announced the participation of a variety of assets, including frigates and maritime patrol aircraft, to strengthen surveillance in the Baltic Sea.
“This military activity is part of our ongoing efforts to improve maritime presence and surveillance in areas vital to our Alliance,” said NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, following a meeting on Tuesday with the leaders of allied countries geographically close to the Baltic Sea.
The mission will rely on cutting-edge technologies such as naval drones, and already enjoys the direct support of countries such as Finland, Estonia, Denmark, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Sweden.
