The Human Rights Observatory and the CDM urgently call on the authorities to take effective measures to combat violence against women.
In its recent report, the Center for Women’s Rights (CDM) noted a worrying increase in violence against women, with 28 deaths recorded during the month of August alone.
Of the total number of violent events that occurred in the eighth month of the year, the majority were recorded in the departments of Olancho and Comayagua, with five and four femicides, respectively.
They are followed by Francisco Morazán, the Bay Islands, Cortés and Colón, which also reported high rates of violent deaths of women.
The report notes that 57% of femicides were committed with firearms, highlighting a worrying trend towards the use of weapons in these crimes.
In addition, it is noted that a large number of the murders occurred in public spaces, which highlights the seriousness of the insecurity faced by women in Honduras.
The CDM report revealed that the highest number of victim are in the 30-39 age range. This information highlights the vulnerability of adult women in the context of gender-based violence.
