Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said today that his country will continue to attack Hezbollah “mercilessly throughout Lebanon , including in Beirut,” after an attack by the Shiite group yesterday killed four Israeli soldiers and wounded some 60 at the Golani military base, near the northern city of Haifa.
“I want to make it clear: We will continue to mercilessly attack Hezbollah throughout Lebanon, including in Beirut,” Netanyahu said during a visit to the military base in the Haifa district where the Hezbollah drone struck.
The president also offered his condolences to the families of the dead boys, all aged 19, and said that Israel is waging a “tough campaign against Iran’s axis of evil ,” an expression that includes Iranian allies such as Hezbollah , Syrian and Iraqi militias and the Houthis in Yemen.
The attack came as part of Israel ‘s war against Hezbollah , with constant bombings against the south of the neighboring country, the Bekaa Valley (east) and the capital, Beirut .
There, the attacks are mostly concentrated in the southern suburbs, known as Dahye and a stronghold of the militia-party, but there have also been some in the center.
“And the most important thing is the spirit. The spirit that I see here: the strong spirit of soldiers, of doctors, of medics. Warriors who understand that they are fighting for the eternity of Israel,” continued the president, addressing the soldiers.
On Monday, some 110 projectiles crossed from Lebanon into Israel, setting off anti-aircraft alarms in the north and central areas of the country and causing minor shrapnel injuries to a woman in the northern area of Carmel, where a car caught fire, according to emergency services.
On the Lebanese side, more than 2,300 people have died since the outbreak of violence between Israel and the Shiite group Hezbollah more than a year ago, in parallel with the war in Gaza, although 1,500 of them have died since the end of September after the escalation of the conflict. EFE
