No agreement on Ukraine without Ukraine – European diplomacy

The Prime Ministers of Norway, Jonas Gahr Store, and Poland, Donald Tusk, stressed in Oslo on Wednesday that Europe was ready to assume greater responsibility in Ukraine if the United States changed its policy of support for Kiev.

“I want to say today, as we discuss how the United States will act in Ukraine, that Mr. Tusk and I agree that Europe, Norway and Poland will take responsibility.”

“What’s happening in Ukraine concerns our security and our future,” Store said at a joint press conference.

Mr. Tusk praised Norway’s support for Kiev in the face of criticism of the Scandinavian country’s high profits in replacing Russia as Western Europe’s main gas supplier.

For his part, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, held talks on Wednesday with Ukrainian President, Volodimir Zelenski, at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, and expressed Spain’s support in the face of Russian aggression. In a message to X, Mr. Sánchez said he had discussed “the progress of Ukraine’s accession process to the European Union”.

“Our principles are clear: there can be no agreement on Ukraine without Ukraine, and there can be no agreement on European security without Europe,” he wrote on X.
